“The Mind Knows Only What Lies Near the Heart”  Norse Proverb (4th grade)

The Pagosa Waldorf Homeschool Cooperative is made up of a group of families committed to enriching the lives of our children using Waldorf education in our homes.  Parents work with their own children using curriculum which presents intellectual challenges to meet the soul development of children, according to Waldorf education.  We are thrilled with the concepts and support from Live Education, an excellent homeschool curriculum.

All of the children gather at one home weekly (or bi-weekly, as needed) to learn specialized skills and for group playtime.  The children delighted in singing songs in Spanish while building their own piñatas and exploring Mexican culture through the fall. They also spent many hours observing and collecting wild medicinal herbs and building forts in the woods. Colder months found them at a different home practicing watercolor techniques and handwork with time for snowshoeing or hiking.  Soon, they will be reciting verses in German, using sign language, and woodworking with a third mother.  During the final group class, children will start a garden and become culinary experts in the spring. 

The kids thrive on learning with peers of mixed ages (currently 7-11 yrs.), they are always excited to work with their friends and are respectful of the parent teachers.  Parent teachers provide a focused lesson, group snack, and safe, healthy play environments.  We also happen to cooperate with music lessons, sport practices, and art classes.  Some families choose to cooperate for main lessons or math, it is all a matter of communication among friends.  As a circle of parents, we nurture our children (and ourselves) with this enlightened way of teaching and we provide a support group to each other, sharing difficulties and triumphs with curriculum, schedules, discipline, and more.
